Qualcomm unveiled its new flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite processor at the Snapdragon Summit. The new processor comes with many innovations that will open the doors to a new era of artificial intelligence for mobile devices. The processor, which offers great improvements especially in artificial intelligence performance and games, announced the features that will be talked about this year.
Snapdragon 8 Elite will create a leap in image analysis with GLM-4V visual model
One of the most striking features of Snapdragon 8 Elite is the Hexagon NPU (Neural Processing Unit). Qualcomm states that this unit increases artificial intelligence performance by 12 times. The devices can quickly process different data types such as INT4, INT8, INT16 and FP16.
For example, large language models and motion models can be processed on-device with the Snapdragon 8 Elite. It reduces reliance on cloud-based systems, increases privacy and minimizes latency. The collaboration with Tencent is also noteworthy.
Tencent’s big AI models can run in 7D and 3D versions on the 8 Elite. This allows devices to make sense of messages faster, increasing message recognition by 200% and improving accuracy by 20%. These models also enable smarter AI applications to be developed on devices.
Snapdragon 8 Elite has raised expectations not only with its AI power but also with its visual processing capabilities. The GLM-4V visual model is integrated with the advanced AI features of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, enabling devices to analyze images and videos at incredible speeds.
For example, the device can analyze visual data much faster, processing at 70 tokens/second. This allows users to get real-time fashion advice, make instant photo and video edits, and perform smarter interactions through their cameras.
Another important capability of the Snapdragon 8 Elite is its superior performance in games with Snapdragon Elite Gaming support. For example, Naraka: Bladepoint, the Snapdragon 8 Elite delivers 22% higher frame rates and 43% higher frame stability. AI is fully integrated into the gaming experience. With AI teammates, players can talk and receive guidance in real-time.
